A live EvolutionLabs collaboration
We are not managing a fighter.
We are building the system around one.
Anel Velic is a 23-year-old combat athlete transitioning from an experienced striking background into complete MMA. EvolutionLabs works alongside Anel and his performance team to build the career architecture around that transition: decisions, fights, commercial structure, partnerships, media, data and long-term positioning.
Case 01·Building in public·Outcome still open

Most talent is managed reactively.
We wanted to build differently.
With Anel, the work begins with the system around the decisions.
Not with the next opportunity.

The individual
Anel already had something that cannot be manufactured: skill, competitive experience and ambition.
Our job is not to create those things.
Our job is to build the structure that helps them compound.
Five engines, each with one question it has to answer. They are reviewed together, because a career fails in the gap between them.
01
Is the athlete becoming capable of the next level?
Current focus
Wrestling, grappling and cage craft built alongside the striking base.
Example output
A training block plan, plus a readiness review before every bout.
02
Are fights, promotions and timing increasing long-term probability?
Current focus
Level of opposition, ruleset, weight class and calendar sequence.
Example output
A fight decision memo: accept, negotiate or decline, with reasons.
03
Can the career increasingly finance its own development?
Current focus
Runway, partner mix and recurring income instead of one-off purses.
Example output
An income replacement ratio, reviewed every quarter.
04
Is attention being converted into durable reputation and owned assets?
Current focus
Owned audience, documented progress and partner-facing proof.
Example output
A public case record, plus assets that stay on AnelVelic.com.
05
Are important decisions explicit, evidence-based and reviewable?
Current focus
Decision rights, review rhythm and a written decision trail.
Example output
A decision log with the reasoning and the date it gets reviewed.
Sport
What does it prove?
Career
Where does it move him?
Platform
Who sees it?
Commercial
What value does it create?
Risk
What can it cost?
The same logic applies beyond fights.
Every major choice creates a decision trail.
Written down, with the evidence behind it and the date it gets reviewed. A decision that disappears cannot be learned from.
Not distract from him. Each layer exists to feed the one below it, and whatever the commercial side produces returns as time and attention for the craft.
If a layer stops feeding development, it is either rebuilt or removed.
We made a deliberate choice with Anel: much of the build is public.
Not because transparency means publishing everything. Because documenting the process creates accountability, audience, partner value and a record of development.
Transparency creates trust.
Confidentiality preserves leverage.

Latest from the case
Small gloves, second data set
October 2026 ended in a stoppage. Logged as evidence rather than a setback: recovery windows, weight cut and a ruleset now priced differently in every decision.
Why we started with a decision system, not a fight calendar
The first months were not spent booking bouts. They were spent deciding how a bout gets accepted in the first place.
A win is not always progress.
The scoreboard moves faster than the development does.
A developing athlete has the same structural problem as an early-stage venture: potential requires time before it produces predictable economics.
Training requires hours.
Camps require capital.
Recovery requires resources.
Opportunity is irregular.
So the first commercial objective is not maximising profit.
It is creating runway.
Key metric
Income replacement ratio
How much of the athlete's required living income is being replaced by recurring fighter-generated income? A far better early-stage metric than purse size.
01
Career consent and personal commitment.
02
Technical development and fight readiness.
03
Career architecture, commercial system and decision process.
04
Medical, legal, financial and performance expertise.
Good collaboration does not mean everyone decides everything.
It means decision rights are clear, written down, and respected when the pressure arrives.
Not a promise.
25 striking fights. The base, built bout by bout.
MMA, wrestling, grappling and the cage.
International amateur level and a record that means something.
The European circuit and a professional career.
The highest level. Earned, not announced.
Phases do not change because a date arrives. They change when enough evidence exists that the next level is justified.
This is the same principle EvolutionLabs uses elsewhere: evidence before escalation.
Updated as the case moves
01
A win is not always progress.
02
A bigger opportunity can still be the wrong decision.
03
Revenue matters when it creates more development capacity.
04
Visibility is useful only when it compounds credibility.
05
The system has to survive emotion.
Each of these started as a line in a review, not as a principle. They stay on this page for as long as they keep proving true.
The underlying challenge is not unique to fighting. High-potential people frequently operate inside weak systems, and the weakness shows up long before the results do.
Opportunities arrive faster than strategy.
Short-term incentives compete with development.
Decisions disappear once they are made.
Progress is confused with activity.
The work is to build structure around potential without suffocating it.
This is where EvolutionLabs operates.

Open decisions
Build the person.
Not the hype.
Make decisions explicit.
Use money to buy capacity.
Document what we learn.
Protect the downside.
Let evidence change the plan.
Build assets that outlive the current opportunity.
Anel is not a case where we already know the ending.
That is exactly why the work matters.
The interesting part is not writing a perfect plan today. It is building a system capable of making better decisions as reality changes.
That is what we are testing here.
